This policy explains what information PlainPick (plainpick.com) collects when you visit, why, and what choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you give us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and to track corrections. We do not add you to any mailing list from an email enquiry.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting and analytics infrastructure records basic technical information when a page is requested, which may include:
- Pages visited and the time of the visit
- Referring website or search engine
- Browser type, operating system and device category
- Approximate location derived from IP address (typically country or region level)
We use this in aggregate to understand which guides are useful and where the site is broken. We do not use it to build advertising profiles of individuals.
Cookies and similar technologies
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting analytics to count visits and understand traffic sources. This may set a first-party cookie or use local storage.
Affiliate tracking
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network sets a cookie on their side so that any resulting purchase is attributed to us. That cookie is controlled by them, not by us, and is governed by their privacy policy. It typically records that a referral occurred and when; it does not give us access to your payment details, your account, or what you actually bought beyond aggregate commission reporting.
Advertising
We may run advertisements on external platforms that link to this site. Those platforms may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure the effectiveness of an ad, subject to their own policies and to your consent where required.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking affiliate cookies does not affect your ability to read the site or to buy from any retailer; it only means a purchase would not be attributed to us.

Data retention
Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful for handling your enquiry and any follow-up. Aggregate analytics data is retained in accordance with our analytics provider's standard retention settings.

Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR; residents of California have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers

Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be described rather than made silently.
