PlainPick is funded by affiliate commissions. This page explains exactly how that works, in plain terms.
What an affiliate link is
Some links on this site to retailers or brands are affiliate links. When you click one and go on to buy, the retailer records that the visit came from us and may pay us a percentage of the sale.
This costs you nothing. The price you pay is the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly.
Which links are affiliate links
Outbound links to retailers and brands in our buying guides should be assumed to be affiliate links. Links to standards bodies, manufacturer documentation, regulators and other reference material are not.
A notice appears at the top of every page of this site so you are aware before you click anything.
Programmes we participate in
We participate in affiliate programmes operated by retailers, brands and affiliate networks. Where a programme requires specific wording, that wording appears in our site footer.
As an affiliate we earn from qualifying purchases. Prices and availability shown on this site are accurate as of the date indicated and are subject to change; the retailer's page at the time of purchase is the authoritative source.
What this does not influence
We think this is the part that matters, so we will be specific.
- Commission rates do not shape our guidance. Rates vary widely between products and categories. We do not steer readers toward higher-paying products, and our guides are structured around explaining specifications rather than pushing particular models.
- We do not sell coverage. No brand can pay to be included, mentioned, ranked, or described favourably. We do not accept sponsored posts, paid guest articles, or paid link insertions.
- Participation in a programme is not an endorsement. We are in programmes for products we would not recommend, and we recommend approaches that earn us nothing.
- Our criticism is not filtered. Where a common product design has a weakness, we say so regardless of whether we could earn from it.
Why we disclose this way
Disclosure of material connections is required in a number of jurisdictions, including under the United States Federal Trade Commission's endorsement guidelines. We would do it anyway: if you cannot tell how a publication is paid, you cannot properly judge what it tells you.
