About PlainPick

PlainPick publishes buying guides for products that cost enough to research properly — power stations, home appliances, office equipment — and explains the specifications that actually determine whether you will be happy with the purchase.

Why the site exists

Search for almost any product category and you will find dozens of ranked lists. Very few of them explain their reasoning. You are told model A beats model B, but not what makes a good one, so you learn nothing transferable and you are back at square one when the line-up refreshes six months later.

We took the opposite approach. Each guide is built around the question "what would I need to understand to judge any product in this category myself?" — spec sheet translation, the numbers manufacturers round in their favour, and the one failure mode that produces most of the regret.

What we cover

We are deliberately narrow. Right now that means portable power, home cleaning appliances, office furniture and air quality equipment. We would rather cover four categories carefully than forty superficially, and we add new ones slowly.

How we are funded

Through affiliate commissions. When you buy through some of our links, a retailer or brand may pay us a percentage. It costs you nothing extra. We do not accept payment for coverage, and commission rates do not influence our guidance. This is set out in detail on the affiliate disclosure page, and our editorial method is on How We Pick.

What we are not

We are not a testing laboratory, and we do not pretend to be. Our guides are built from primary documentation, published standards and long-term owner reports. Where a claim rests on something we have not verified ourselves, we say so.
